If you follow the national crossfitera, the name Alexander Anasagasti has to sound. If you are more of Instagram, surely you have ever seen the Nick @mr_weak7 or your collection of Memes That makes us laugh and think, equally.
But if we dedicate an entry on the PICSIL blog, it is because Anasagasti is the most in the form of Spain and our male individual representative in the CrossFit Games 2019.
Congratulations on being the most in the form of Spain. What does it feel like to have this title?
Sounds weird, I don't get used to it. What I can say with great pride is that my comeback has been spectacular this year in the Open.
Indeed, you are the man of the spectacular comeback in the 2019 Open. 16th in 19.1, ninth in 19.2 and 19.3, until winning the last two Wod. What happened?
Last year I didn't know if I could do this year's Open. When I was injured in the regional ones, I told myself: "Bah, I do not do the open because I want to recover from the injury." After a year recovering, as I looked more or less well, I have signed up for the Open.
What happened? The first Wod was sorry, so I tried to do my best, and I was 16th. So I said: "I'm going to focus on others to turn the situation around."
The second Wod Just was Squat Clean, something I'm not especially good either. And it was precisely the movement with which I was injured in the regional ones. I have not made movement since I was injured.
I have done similar things and I have worked with similar weights. And, in this case, I had a single bullet and spent it in the Open. It was a surprise because I didn't think I was going to arrive tan Far in this wod.
The next Wod did it more or less well and went back to the positions. And the next two brought my name.
I have repeated all the Wod twice, except the 19.3, that I repeated it three times because I needed it since I was in a fairly critical situation and a more repetition could be worth a lot. It was a very muscular training that did not suppose much fatigue. And, in the field of leg resistance, I am going well because I can do this type of training several times a day.
We could see on your Instagram account the pique you had with your partner Asier Sánchez In the Open. Was it a matter of pride to be better than Asier?
That's healthy pique!
We train together and work together in the same box. And it's cool! I had never happened to be in the same competition with a opponent.
The good thing about this is that you do a wod, and when you finish it, you know more or less if you have done well or not. Because when you compete with someone who has the same level as you and you have taken X reics or he has taken X reics, it is easier to know if you can really improve it or you will get a good result in this wod.
In the case of Asier, he beat the first three. Then, we propose a strategy. And yes, there is a healthy and very cool pique. I would repeat another year.
Next stop: Madison. How are you preparing for this summer's Games?
Well, here!
What happens is that in Donosti
It has been more than a month since the Open and my training starts now. I have been bad of the injury since the Open, it has hurt me a lot. I have had a reflection on the good hip. And I am now starting to train normally and I am starting to put things like training outside, to get used to the street; Strongman elements, ... things that I would not do normally. Go to the short rope, lift the Atlas ball. Those little things ...
What are your goals?
I had a good time!
The truth is that I will not win. I guess the cutting method that will have will be to eliminate people every day. So, my goal is to get to the last day, safe and safely. I'm going to do my best, as in all competis. And I'm going to prepare the best I can. But my goal is that, have a good time. And I'm going to do it!
Last year you reached the Meridian Regionals of Madrid but you had to leave the competition for an injury. What did you learn from this experience?
Well, I was better than I thought. If I had not injured and could train more decently, I would have done better. The same would have remained in the Top 10. That for me is very good.
I think that once you have gone to regional ones, you know you can reach that level. So all the demand and all the work that requires reaching regional ones makes you already at a level that is difficult to lower. If you keep training in the same way, of course. You reach a point where you keep your level of security and trust.
For example, this year, when I have done the open, it has not turned out tan Hard mentally because I know what I am able to do. So it is easy to repeat this sensation.
Do you plan to participate in one of the official competitions of CrossFit?
Yes, but after the Games. My goal is to compete in the Games. I have declined a competition in Barcelona because I don't want to injure myself. I am bad of the hip. He has scared me and I don't want to repeat what happened to me last year. He doesn't want to annoy my dream, I don't want to risk.
Yes, I'm going to CrossFit French Throwdown, as a team. We will try to do what we can. And after the Games, I will try to qualify for him Dubai CrossFit Championship I really liked seeing it and I would like to do those tests.
What advice can you give us to be the 'Fittest in Spain' next year?
You have to be patient and desire. Things are not achieved overnight. If one day you put your hands in the head because you have not done a training well or because you are not good enough in one thing, then you will not go very far.
You have to have fun and you have to understand that everything requires your time. You have to put objectives in the short term. If you know that you are in the top 50 of the country, because you may not be first next year. So your goal for next year is to reach Top 40 or 30.
The first time I did the open without expectation. Let's see what happened. The following year, I said: "I have been 15th. Next year, I will stay in the Top 10". And the following year, I said: "Let's see if I get to the regional ones." The conditions were favorable because the regions changed and, without waiting, I was first. It cost me five years to go to the regional ones. And six years go to the Games.
The conditions have been favorable because last year I reached the regional ones and my goal was to reach the Games in two or three years. As I wanted to get this, I knew I would require some time.
Therefore, my advice is to have patience and put micro-objectives. Do not put big objectives in the short term because, if you do not get them, you will have a bad time. You have to go little by little.
